OpenAM Adaptive Authentication features

The goal of the adaptive authentication module is to assess informations about a previously logged in user, and based on some checks (IP address is in history, last login was x days ago, has some cookie, etc) it decides, whether the user is considered as a risk (login failure), in which case he would have to authenticate with a stronger module, OR the user has already proven enough, and no further authentication steps are needed.
